Q: How long is the Workshop?

The entire session runs 60 minutes (without interruption).

Q: Can you give me a sense of what happens?

The first half your Host does a live presentation with videos, and the second half is the SMTM Game itself. Students earn points cumulatively through solving a series of Video Challenges via Kahoot questions that test their knowledge on information learned in the first half. Students also see a short (4 min) careers-oriented video from real financial industry professionals created just for them. Lastly, winners are revealed via the Kahoot podium. The highest scoring students placing 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 2 runner ups are celebrated. Post-session, a thank-you email is automatically sent to you that includes an optional follow up activity/assignment (with grading rubric), an information sheet you can share with students, and a short but important educator survey with 5 easy to fill in questions. Your classes’ Kahoot reports can be made available upon request. If you are looking to use for grading or participation marks, please send a separate request.

Q: What technology do I need?

1) Your work device (desktop computer/laptop) to join a regular virtual Zoom meeting with our Host. 2) You need to project your screen to the whole class via Smartboard, projector, or other means. It is important that students can see and hear the projected screen, the live host, and video elements of the presentation clearly. 3) Students need devices to play the SMTM Game (on Kahoot!). These can be personal devices (most use their phones with permission) or devices provided by the school (laptops, tablets, etc.).

Q: Instead of ZOOM, can we do the SMTM Game on Teams or Meet?

Short answer is YES. The workshop was developed for Zoom which is our preference for best teacher and student experience. If your school only uses Teams or Google Meet we can work with that, just follow these few extra steps: 1) When you schedule your session(s) via the booking link, make a note on the short intake form that you need to use Teams or Google Meet, instead of Zoom.

Q: Do I need to do any prep work before/for the session?

No, you don’t. The workshop is designed as a stand-alone unit. There is no additional work for teachers to teach, share, or photocopy ahead of time. You simply log onto the Zoom meeting link at your scheduled date/time and let our Host take it from there. We do recommend however, that you test your device/screen set up beforehand, so time isn’t lost at the front end dealing with tech issues. If it’s your first time and need assistance please email us prior to your delivery date, we’re happy to assist.

Q: Do students need to take notes?

While it is not mandatory for students to take notes during the presentation, we highly recommend it.

Q: Does the SMTM Game Host need to see or hear the class?

No. It is not necessary at all. We are experienced with presenting to classes where we can’t see or hear the students (teachers mute their microphones and keep the webcam off). Teacher and host communicate through the Zoom Chat function. We are also experienced with presenting to classes where we can see or hear students as well.

Q: How many prizes are there?

1) In every Season of Play, the highest scoring student across Canada in each grade level (10, 11, 12) will win a $50.00 e-Gift Card of their choice. If you have a mixed grade class, that’s not a problem. We may need to connect with you to determine the grade level of any top scoring students from your class. 2) Launching in September 2025, the highest scoring CLASS in each Season of Play will win a $100.00 e-Gift card of their choice! Together with you, they can decide on something the whole class will enjoy! Be sure to encourage every student to keep playing the SMTM Game and earning those points! They all add up toward who wins the highest overall CLASS score in Canada. 3) Finally, in each Season of Play the overall highest scoring individual student nationally earns a coveted permanent place for their school and province on the SMTM Game Leaderboard on our website, in addition to winning their grade level’s $50.00 e-Gift Card of their choice.

Q: What are the Seasons of Play?

Fall (September to late December), Winter (January to end of March) Spring (April to third week of June), Summer School (July and Aug). Each year we open the available times for each season a few weeks early in our online booking calendar. We send the link out within emails directly and this website will always have the current online booking calendar links available by clicking any orange ENROL TODAY button. We recommend educators secure their preferred dates and times early for each season to avoid disappointment.

Q: What happens if the session time I want is unavailable?

If you are unable to book the session date and time you want because you don’t see it as a choice, it is because other educators have already booked it. Please find another date and time. *If you are really stuck, and cannot find another date and time, please email us at showmethemoneygame@gmail.com and we’ll do our best to see if anything can be done.

Q: The booking link only offers 15-minute increments of time. How do I book a class time that starts at 11:27 not 11:15 or 11:30?

This is usually not an issue. We will adjust on our end once we receive your booking with your note on actual timing and will follow up directly if we need to, otherwise consider yourself booked.

Q: How do winning students collect their $50.00 e-Gift Card prize?

At the end of each season, we calculate the individual winners for each grade level. We inform the winning teachers directly shortly after the close of each season’s competition, so they can connect us with the winner or their parents and we do the rest! We encourage you to celebrate all of your winners! Those from your in-class competition on the day and also if any become one of the national season winners. Share the news on your school social media and with your local media. You also are a winning educator just for providing this opportunity. Be sure to let your community know and include us when you do!

Q: Can students pick ANYTHING for the prize?

YES! Anything that is available as an online gift certificate or e-gift card we can send by email (that is appropriate of course). We do our best to accommodate the winners’ preferences, and student winners enjoy being able to choose what they want.

Q: Can multiple classes join one workshop?

Yes. We have hosted large groups with great success! Larger groups of students can do the session together in a theatre or auditorium as a special event. Schools have also booked all the classes of a certain grade level to play and compete simultaneously from within their own classrooms on the same Zoom link. Then they celebrate their own in-school winners and runners up of the whole grade.
